Bob was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. This made his ability to travel the way he did in the past difficult. Then someone in his IPF support group recommended ProResp.
He has said many times when asked about ProResp just how accommodating the staff have been when they help make travel something he can now do. Julia, his ProResp Newmarket manager, always encourages him to make use of their services. She tells him to get out there and see the world.
At first Bob was using a portable concentrator, which allowed him to still fly. With this device he could travel to Europe and head south for the winter. But as his condition evolved, Bob had to switch to liquid oxygen. This is not allowed on airplanes. When Bob heard this, he was understandably upset. But ProResp discussed another possibility with him. They suggested putting an oxygen tank in the back of his car, so that he could still be away for a period of time.
This past summer a second tank was installed and he spent two weeks at a cottage in Georgian Bay. Then another week was spent with the family at a cottage.
In September Bob went on a five day cruise on the Rideau River. This was the highlight of the summer. It started in Ottawa and ended in Kingston. ProResp came on board in Ottawa and installed a 20L tank in his cabin, and then at the end of the trip, the Kingston ProResp team removed it. Bob was so grateful as he said it was an incredible voyage: short, but very interesting.
In terms of what's next, Bob is thinking of a trip to Newfoundland next summer. His ProResp RT, Julia, is from Newfoundland and not only has she said she can make it happen for him but she will also be able to tell him all the spots to check out once he gets there.
Bob added, "Based on my experience, If anyone asked me who to go with for oxygen, I would definitely recommend ProResp."
