Geoff went into hospital with bilateral pneumonia. When he was discharged four days later, he still did not feel great. He was having trouble breathing. But two hours after Geoff got home from hospital, a ProResp team member arrived at his house.
“He was a life saver,” Geoff told us. The ProResp team member immediately set about making Geoff feel better, adjusting his oxygen flow to optimal levels, and ensuring he could move around his house and knew the procedures to follow for the first few days of his recovery. That was followed by a visit from his Respiratory Therapist, Sarah, and the official start of his at-home recovery.
After just two months with ProResp, Geoff expressed how impressed he was by the way his RT seemed to really care for him.
“I’ve never had anybody treat me the way Sarah does,” Geoff said. “She is spending the time, really getting to know me, and walking with me on my journey to recovery.”
Geoff had a few setbacks. Shortly after his hospital stay, he caught COVID. Once he recovered from that, just as Sarah was preparing to wean him off the supplemental oxygen, Geoff suffered multiple blood clots in his lungs. It was back to the hospital and then back home to start the whole recovery over again. But Geoff remained optimistic.
“Sarah and I will just have to build my stamina back up again,” he said at the time. “She is giving me all the little tricks and exercises and things I need to be doing, and then hopefully with another CT scan I’ll be cleared to start getting back to normal.”
Once fully recovered, Geoff said he looked forward to mowing his lawn himself again, and being able help out more around the house. Thanks for sharing your story, Geoff.
